1959 Gibson LG-1 Vintage Acoustic Guitar Sunburst with Case, Baseball Bat Neck
Up for sale, a 1959 Gibson LG-1 in excellent condition, complete with the original faux alligator chipboard case. A well-kept, golden age Gibson, this LG-1 features a very hearty "baseball bat" neck profile carve, solid spruce top, solid Honduran mahogany back, sides and one-piece neck, and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge. A dynamic instrument with an immediate, percussive note attack, the LG-1 has a tone that's surprisingly big and bold, with more rumble and breadth to the bass register than many of its ladder-braced brethren.
Digging in with a flatpick yields ample lower midrange sweetness and smooth growl, while the trebles are lively and brilliant with a bit of punch. The guitar also lends itself well to fingerpicking with a balanced string-to-string response and an even sound as you travel up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in every register up the 24 3/4 scale, and the neck is straight with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The upgraded carved bone nut measures 1 11/16 in width, and the headstock retains a very clean gold Gibson silkscreen and modern Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines. The guitar benefits from a professional neck reset, and the neck meets the body at an ideal angle, ensuring decades of future trouble-free use. A corresponding compensated bone saddle has also been carved, slotting cleanly into the original Brazilian rosewood bridge. The guitar retains its original dark tortoise guard, and the guard has been recently reglued so it sits flush with the top on all edges and isn't putting undue tension on the spruce.
There is a very slight and repaired split along the bass-side edge of the pickguard, in the usual spot on both sides of the soundhole. Visible through the soundhole, the S-prefix factory order number is intact on the heel block. The original warm Sunburst nitro lacquer gloss shows broad, prominent lacquer checking across the entire body, with some minor dings and scuffs on the body as a whole consistent with light, careful use.The smooth nitro gloss on the neck profile is free of palm wear with just a few minor marks central to the carve and on the fretboard edges. The original faux alligator chipboard case is included and quite well-kept considering the fragility of the materials. The plastic molded handle is present, and the original latches are intact and functional. Check out our shop "Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, " and please let us know if we can answer any questions!
