1930's Vintage M. R. Campbell Jimmie Reese Major League Baseball Bat
Nice Condition for Its Age - Not perfect but nice. Here is a nice, old M. Campbell "Jimmie Reese" baseball bat.
It looks really cool and has a great patina to it. You can get a good idea of the condition of it from the photos. It is missing a chunk of the wood on the barrel of the bat. A piece split off sometime way back when.
I tried to photograph what was missing but it doesn't show up well since the patina of the split wood looks much like the rest of the bat. The split off piece runs from the cap of the bat back toward the grip for about 12 and the piece that is missing is about an inch wide.
There is also a small chunk out of the knob of the bat. You can see this in the photos.
As you can see the logo reads M. Campbell - Major League - Tullahoma Tenn and bears the name of Jimmie Reese who retired from baseball in 1938. Campbell produced bats from 1900 - 1935 according to internet sources. Jimmie Reese started playing ball in 1924 so I would say it is safe to assume that this bat was made in the late 20's or early 30's. If you are reading this you probably know a lot more about this bat, M. Campbell and Jimmie Reese than I do and you probably are fully aware of how uncommon these bats are. It would be great if this bat were worth a million dollars but we know it's not one can always dream, right?
