Vintage Evansville hatchet axe hammer custom JESSE REED baseball bat handle

  

Up for grabs is a nice old Evansville "Good Service" carpenters hatchet I cleaned up, had a little fun with sharpening and made a handle for her....... Now back to business, Shes approx. 14 inches long and She weighs approx. 1 3/4 pounds total weight (hair under), she has a nice solid weight to her............ There is no damage to this head such as cracks, welds, just the typical age marks of an old axe head...... I mirror polished the cutting edge as well as the hammer face and left all of the other age marks on her, I think it makes for a sweet detail effect to see the old metal and natural patina up against the ultra smooth polished areas........

The factory makers logo is all there and fully legible on the head and it reads "Evansville Good Service"............ The handle is one of MY classic shapes and is all made by me, by hand here in Oregon...... The handle is made out of one piece of solid exotic Sapele......

I did my classic baseball bat theme on this one and did some nice hand cut half round beads in the grip area for a better hold, I also blacked out that area using my ever so famous top secret "Demon Juice" home brew for a nice even color........... The handle has a great shape and in hand feel to her, it molds to the hand.... I set the head using both wood wedges and epoxy and got a nice tight fit that looks good on both the top and bottom...........

I sanded the handle silky smooth and used several coats of Boiled Linseed Oil for the final finish........................ I do combine when ever possible.... Cheaper on you and easier on me....
