Babe Ruth 40 BR 34 Bat Professional Baseball Fund World War 2 Army Air Force
You are looking at possibly the rarest store model bat out there. At the start of the united states involvement in World War 2, mlb teams got together and decided to donate funds to support a drive by Calvin Griffiths Professional baseball fund, to send baseballs, gloves, bats etc to troops overseas to help boost moral. Not much is really known about the bats. I've only seen one bat, online, myself.
Baseballs do pop up from time to time but not bats. I bought this bat from a Vietnam veteran. He told me his dad was an army air force pilot in the great war along with his uncle.He brought the bat back and it sat in a closet for decades. I don't know the history about AAF being stamped or carved in the bat. Personally, this AAF looks carved.
I have read where different branches would have markings on these rare bats. I haven't seen it myself except for this one. There are some dents and chips in bat as can be seen in pictures.
This isn't a deep burnt in stamp for any of writing on bat. Still very visible black stamping tho. No cracks and bat weighs between 34 and 35 ounces.
