Up for your consideration is a vintage corkball (yes, you read that right, CORKBALL) bat that was made by Rawlings sometime early in the last century. What is corkball you ask? Well, according to a certain online encyclopedia, corkball is a "mini-baseball" game featuring a 1.6-ounce (45 g) ball, which is stitched and resembles a miniature baseball. The bat has a barrel that measures 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter.
Originally played on the streets and alleys of St. Louis, Missouri as early as 1890, today the game has leagues formed around the country as a result of St. Louis servicemen introducing the game to their buddies and comrades during World War II and the Korean War. It has many of the features of baseball, yet can be played in a very small area because there is no base-running.
Corkball uses a 1.6-ounce (45 g) ball, which is stitched and resembles a baseball, but is only 30.48-32% the mass of a regular baseball (close to the same size as a golf ball). The bat has a barrel that measures up to 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) in diameter and a maximum of 38 inches (97 cm) in length. There is precious little information online about this particular model, but it is no stretch of the imagination to estimate it's production in the 1940's or earlier. This bat measures just shy of 36" in length and 1.5" in diameter (see photos).

If you are a Saint Louis native and want to hearken back to the days of your or your father's, or grandfather's!! youth, this is the bat for you.

If you want a truly rare piece of sports equipment from a bygone era, this bat is for you. If you love any sport where a ball is struck by a piece of lumber, this bat is for you.
