Louis Browns allowed Nap Lajoie of the Indians to go 8 for 8 and pass Ty Cobb in the batting title, hoping to get Lajoie a new car and beat the man everyone (Cobb). It did not work but the result was a major scandal in which players were banned, cars were given to both players, and the hatred for Cobb was unveiled in huge numbers. The offered letter was sent from American League co-founder in 1903 and the owner of the Cleveland Indians to White Sox owner Charles Comiskey and informs Commy that Somers had JUST opened a telegram to Nap Lajoie that was sent to him from members of Ty Cobb's Detroit Tigers congratulating Lajoie on beating Cobb in the scandal. The letter even goes on to mention the NAMES of the Tigers players who hated Cobb so bad they rooted against him including Sam Crawford, and the other stars of the team!
