By 1891, Piper bats had gained a wide reputation for quality, and the company was making 60,000 per year, including several models used by major leaguers. This piece is stunning and features original advertising logo and is referred to as Mushroom style bat, A mushroom baseball bat is a baseball bat with a large, mushroom-shaped knob on the end of the handle that was popular in the early 1900s. The knob was designed to counterbalance the weight of the bat's barrel, which was larger in the 1900s. This helped to distribute the bat's weight more evenly along its length, the knob is meant to counterbalance the barrel, producing a more balanced bat.
