Rare Vintage MONTREAL EXPOS Game Used Batting Helmet
Offered here is a game used Montreal Expos batting helmet, circa 1969 it is flapless, fiberglass, showing excellent use. It has been repainted, probably several times, as was the custom. This was generally done by the clubhouse guy or the batboys, and, it was particularly necessary with fiberglass helmets, which showed a lot of wear and did not hold paint well.
It does not have an individual players name or number on it, and there is a good explanation for that; at that point in time, many of the teams were just plain cheap, and instead of a name there would be a size somewhere. Many of the teams ran on low budgets, and even the ones that didn't were notoriously cheap. It is worth remembering that there was essentially no memorabilia market at that time, as there is now. This helmet displays beautifully, and it would make a terrific addition to any collection.
