I've collected over 200 bats in the past 30 years and have decided to offer them for sale to fellow collectors. I'll be listing more every week so keep watching. Most are vintage or even older and many are quite hard to find. I guarantee there will be bats you've never seen before. And some are game used or autographed including Hall of Famers. Now here's a really neat bat from the 1940, maybe earlier that is triple stamped and has a lot going for it. First of all, it's made by Kren of Syracuse, NY which was for many of its production years (1913 to 1952), second only to Hilllerich & Bradsby in production and major league bat users. Top of the line Professional Model 140. Third, its deep barrel brand is for the largest hardware/sporting goods store in New York, Alexander Grant's Sons making it an advertising piece.. Fourth, it has three stampings, the Center Logo, the Barrel brand and somehing in between them that is hard to decipher other than "Syracuse". Fifth, the condition is fabulous. Since Kren was out of business by 1953 and Alexander Grant's Sons did not begin their sporting goods line until after 1920 (see history below), I'd estimate that this bat is from the 1930s or 1940s. Alexander Grant established Grant Hardware Co. In the 1880's in Syracuse NY.
At the turn of the century his business included his sons and the name was changed to Alexander Grant's Sons Hardware. By the 1920's, they were one of the oldest and largest full service retail hardware outlets in the Syracuse area.
Like many other hardware outlets, Grants eventually carried baseball and other sporting goods. Alexander Grant's Sons Hardware is not connected to the W. Grant Department Store chain of the same era. Condition: Please use the multiple pictures to assess condition. Excellent, a beautiful bat with. Strong, bold brandings - no cracks - some usage marks.
